My Background
Hi there!
My name is Jillian (she/her). I am a hiker and dog lover who has have lived as a settler on the Indigenous territories of the Lekwungen peoples (Victoria) for my entire life on the island of the Coast Salish, Nuu-cha-nulth, and Kwakwaka’wakw peoples (Vancouver Island).
I am a third-year student studying at the University of Victoria. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Minor in Gender Studies. My research focuses on gender-based violence and discrimination in online spaces such as Reddit, Quora, and Twitter. Moreover, I have also completed a quantitative research project focusing on the ways visible minorities in Canada perceive their confidence in the Canadian police.

Why DEI?
I chose the path of DEI as I believe it best fits not only my academic path in sociology with a specific focus on gender discrimination and visible lived experiences, but also my personal core values of diversty, accessibility, inclusion, and equitability. With so many social, policy, and ___, I believe that it is critical that there is specific dedication to equitable opportunities and a more diverse workplace.
